WHAT IS THE TEAM LIKE?
The team in ED are absolutely lovely at Queanbeyan District Hospital! Everyone is approachable, supportive and thoughtful. The head of the department even helped me prepare for an interview for a college application.
TELL US ABOUT THE SETUP OF THE HOSPITAL AND SUPPORT FOR A LOCUM DOCTOR IN Queanbeyan?
The hospital itself has limited services – a 24 hour ED, some relatively low acuity medical inpatients and low risk maternity. Whilst the hospital is in NSW the referral centre (and the people you ring up to ask for advice) is Canberra.
They use eMR which is easy to use if you’ve used it before but can be a bit tricky if you’ve not. Pathology and imaging aren’t available out of hours but often come in so it’s always worth asking if they’re still around!
WHAT DOES THE TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION LOOK LIKE FOR A LOCUM DOCTOR IN Queanbeyan?
Canberra airport is a 20 minute drive from Queanbeyan.
The accommodation is a 5-10 minute walk from the hospital and has pretty much everything you need – bedding, towels, cutlery, kitchen stuff!
ANY LOCAL’S INSIDE INFORMATION TO SHARE? BEST SWIMMING SPOTS? LOOKOUTS? BIKE OR WALK TRAILS?
The local swimming pool (QPRC Aquatics) has a delightful outdoors 50m pool. For hiking Tidbinbilla National Park is absolutely amazing – so many hikes!
TOWN AMENITIES? SHOPS, COFFEE TIPS FOR A LOCUM DOCTOR IN Queanbeyan?
The town itself has everything – Coles, Woolies, some nice cafes (4th Seed does amazing coffee) but equally Canberra itself is only 20 minutes by car and has an amazing selection of cafes and restaurants. Canberra also has an amazing selection or art galleries, and keep your eyes open for the Enlighten Festival which takes place in March!
WOULD YOU GO BACK TO Queanbeyan AS A LOCUM DOCTOR?
Yes, definitely! It’s a lovely place to work and a fantastic area to explore.
