Welcome to the next edition of “Blugibbon Bites”, a series chatting with some of our Doctor friends, delving beyond the clinical facade and showcasing the human behind the stethoscope.
Up this week is Dr Kieran Kennedy, a Psychiatry Doctor and health advocate, that you may recognise if you have ever watched The Today Show or read Men’s Health Magazine.
As Kieran explains, “Before I was even a Doctor I was a fitness junkie”. Exercise has been a constant for him and is part of his daily medicine.
For someone in such great shape, you would imagine he has all the bells and whistles and fancy gym facilities. However, if you check out his Instagram feed right now you will see his creative usage of an ironing board as a bench and footrests to secure his weights when doing bench presses!
Born and raised in New Zealand, he grew up in a small country town with a family full of boys. He has been in Melbourne for a few years now, moving there to finish his Psychiatry training. He loves psychiatry due to the fact it is arguably as black and white as some other medical specialties.
Psychology, neuroscience and neurology have always been fascinations of his.
Before he “geeked out” on science, Kieran had an “arts” background with acting, writing and creative endeavours.
Apart from being involved in mental health professionally with his career, personally, he puts mental health advocacy as a priority, having collaborated with charitable organisations and movements including Mr. Perfect, founded and run by our very own Blugibbon Consultant Terry.
Stories and connection are vital to Kieran and whether it is at work, in the media or personally, he aims to give everything pure dedication.
